About this work

An open touring car with its top folded stands at center, peasant women in headscarves seated inside and on the running board. A woman holding a chicken stands beside it, a rooster perches on the hood, and a man in a tall hat and long coat stands at front with a shaggy dog at his feet; a ragged man stands apart at left, and a thought-bubble above the car frames a lattice radio tower beside an onion-domed building.

Fine hatched line renders the car's bodywork and the women's patterned shawls in careful detail, against a sparser figure at left. The contrast of old-world peasant dress with the automobile and the fantastical tower vision gives the print a dry, satirical humor.
